YOUNG CHASSIS CAB TECHNICIAN PICKS UP ‘LOYALTY’ REWARD

Chassis Cab – the Suffolk and Cambridgshire-based DAF Trucks family-owned dealership
– has presented a cheque for £4,500 to one of its employees who has qualified for a loyalty award after completing his apprenticeship and a total of 7 years of service with the company.

Scott Dixey is now 25 and a fully qualified Paint and Body technician having officially completed a three year paint and panel beating course at Colchester Institute before joining Chassis Cab in Bury St Edmunds in 2010.   He attended County Upper School and then joined Chassis Cab aged 18.  Although not entirely sure what attracted him to the truck business sector he recalls that his grandfather also worked as a commercial paint sprayer.

Scott has stayed with the dealership since completing his apprenticeship and has just qualified for the cash sum paid by the company to reward loyalty among its young technicians.

The company has taken on a total of six new apprentices this year making a group total of 18 across the four separate locations at Bury St Edmunds, Ipswich, Cambridge and Isleham.

Explains Robert Baxter, Dealer Principal: ‘Chassis Cab has evolved from a small family business into a market leading DAF dealership; and to continue to drive the growth of the business we need to keep investing in the future.’

‘With our dedicated staff training programmes – for both junior and senior employees – we can ensure that we are always ready and prepared for business.  Our young technicians are the lifeblood of our business and we have already taken on six across our four truck locations this year.’

‘The bonus award comes at a time when the technicians are in their mid-20s often needing help with homes, cars or holidays.  Scott is a highly valued employee and we are delighted to be able to provide him with this loyalty award.’

Scott has no particular plans for the loyalty reward at the moment.  He says: ‘I’m very happy to have been given this award which will initially get paid into my bank.’

‘I’m not really sure what I will use the money for at this stage – but it will be good thinking over the options.’

He added: ‘This s a very generous gesture from the company which has already done a lot to help me through its highly professional training programme.  I do really enjoy my job.  We prepare a wide range of vehicles for delivery to new owners – including recovery vehicles and even horseboxes – as well as carrying out regular repairs to commercial trucks.  It’s all about keeping the wheels of business rolling - whatever they are!!!’

Scott and his partner Eleanor currently live on Moreton Hall in Bury St Edmunds with their baby son Joey.

Chassis Cab has recently expanded its operation to include a main Cambridge dealership making it the main DAF Truck franchise holder for the East of England.  Its core business is DAF Truck Sales, Servicing, Roadside Assistance, DAF MultiSupport Repair and Maintenance, the supply of DAF and PACCAR Parts and Accessories, Commercial Vehicle Paint and Body Shop, Tachograph, HGV MOT testing services and Driver Training.

The dealer group now employs over 145 members of staff between its four separate locations.

Chassis Cab has been the main DAF dealer for Suffolk since the early 1990s and a has had a presence in Cambridgshire since 2006. The business was formed in 1982 by David Ruffles who set up a body repair business in Bury St Edmunds.  It has grown to become one of the premier dealers for DAF and a leading supplier of trucks in the region.
